With the holiday season here, it’s time for all kinds of gatherings ranging from work parties to family get-togethers and sophisticated cocktail parties.

We all want to look our best and that includes footwear. Do you think that you can’t have style and comfort at the same time? Wrong! With some planning, you can be comfy in your shoe and boot choices and still look chic.

Here are our top tips on choosing holiday party footwear:

  • Go flatter. Shop around – you can find glamorous metallic flats that come with cushioned footbeds and flexible outsoles. For real flair, choose styles with eye-catching gemstone accents.

  • Slip into slides. There are dressier versions of this comfortable shoe that come with the right form and plenty of function. If you plan on dancing, look for dress slides with unique touches like flowers and beading.

  • Boost your fashion with booties. These are perfect for cold Connecticut nights, especially with warm socks underneath. You can find booties in patent letter and metallic styles, but opt for those that have shorter block heels instead of spikes.

  • Winter sandals work. Sandals aren’t only for warm weather, so switch to a dress sandal for an indoor event. Select styles in luxurious materials like velvet, suede and patent and stick with open toes and a flat heel for extra comfort.

Avoid wearing high heels or at least limit their use. These fashionable shoes can really wreak havoc with your feet. By forcing more of your weight forward onto your toes – in a narrow, squeezed area – you may experience problems like hammertoe as well as ingrown toenails. That pressure on the toes can also contribute to a Morton’s neuroma, a painful enlargement of the nerve that provides sensation to the toes.
